Introduction to Canoeing
A variety of venues are used including; canals, reservoirs and rivers throughout the Peak District and surrounding area – it may be possible on an introductory session to complete a journey on a river – slow moving water over 3 – 4 miles
A flat water session will include using either open canoe (share with another person) or kayak (single person), fitting and adjusting canoeing equipment to include; buoyancy aid, helmet, basic paddling skills, tasks to reinforce skills, what to do in the event of a capsize (it’s not necessary to capsize unless you would really like to!), games and a journey.
It’s good to wear comfortable, warm clothing that you can move around and canoe in. Old trainers are suitable foot wear. It’s good to have a complete change of clothing and towel with you – just in case. All technical equipment will be provided, for example, helmet, buoyancy aid, cagoule, paddle and kayak or open boat etc
